Alex update and pics from Lucas' birthday

Alex started school last Wednesday. He was very excited to start back, but not as excited by the time he came home. He's bored, but we're working with his teacher and other professionals at the school in hopes that we can remedy this. Here are a few pictures from his first and second day of school:
School aparently wipes Alex out!!

On Lucas' birthday, the boys had fun eating watermelon outside on the deck. It was such a beautiful day and oh do they love watermelon!
Picture day is tomorrow. I asked Alex if we could get his hair cut on Friday night. He said yes, but wanted it cut "right now." So off to the bathroom we went. I think it turned out quite well. He looks like such a big boy, though! See for yourself.

And here are the pictures as promised from Lucas' birthday and a brief video. It was really cute, Lucas sang "Happy Birthday" to himself, even after we were done singing.

Thank you to all for all of the wonderful toys. Lucas is playing with all of them daily!
Last, but not least, a video of Lucas playing with his new car set. This gives you some insight into our every day life.

One more thing - to those of you who get e-mail updates, please click on the link at the very bottom that says something to the effect of "taken from "The Boys and the Joys of my Life." This will take you to the blog itself. I added more pictures to the first birthday post after the notification got sent. :) This will enable you to see any of the posts that have been made at any time.

Thanks for reading and sharing our joys!

My baby is 2 today!

I can't believe two years have all ready passed!

It was so cute, when Alex got up this morning, Lucas was all ready up. Alex came in and said, "Happy birthday, Lucas! You're two now! Now you're a big boy! Come, give me a hug." and they hugged. So cute. I only wish I'd had my camera ready! Then Alex wanted Lucas to do everything with him from getting food to playing Wii. I guess Lucas has been inducted into the big boy club! LOL

I was looking back through old pictures to find some to post of Lucas over the past 2 years, and came across pictures of Alex at just a few months older. My goodness they look similar. Some of the expressions are the same. Alex looked at the pictures and thought they were Lucas. :)

Later today I'll post pictures from today (after they've been taken of course). Here's a not so brief trip down memory lane!

Watercolor fun!

This happened a few weeks ago all ready, but I thought I would share about it. The boys decided they wanted to paint and got out the watercolors. They had an absolute ball. Alex gathered everything they needed and they got to work. I guess they decided that painting on paper was getting boring, though, because Lucas started painting himself, and Alex soon followed suit. The pictures at the top of the page are from that fun time, and here is what ensued!

Thankfully, they were washable watercolors, and washed up easily from the boys with washcloths and water (in a bath of course) and from the kitchen with water and microfiber cloths! (Thanks Doug for cleaning the floor while I cleaned the boys!)

Giggles and Music and Smiles and Reading oh my!

I sprained my knee this past Saturday. Nothing exciting happened, just was cleaning up the family room, bent down to pick something up and something in my knee snapped. Not being able to do much is really frustrating to me right now, but Lucas is brightening my days constantly.

On the way home from the MedPointe, we had Celtic Women playing, and Lucas sang with me. Every time I looked back at him, he would start singing, too, and a huge almost shy grin would spread across his face. It brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart. Music means so much to me and that he loves it just thrills me to no end. I can't believe that with how little he speaks, he memorizes and sings songs.

Yesterday, he was sitting at the piano, tinkering away and singing "Mahna mahna do do do do do mahna mahna do do do do" It was so cute!

This afternoon, Lucas brought me the tub of mini-merengues that we got on our trip to NY. I opened the tub and he popped one in his mouth and a huge smile filled his face. He giggled as he bit into it and it melted in his mouth. He did this four or five times and then picked one up and shoved it in my mouth, giggling away. I couldn't help but laugh out loud with him. There is just something contagious about his smile and his laugh!

Alex is so cute, he is constantly concerned about if I'm okay. I assure him that I'll be fine, and the relief that crosses his furrowed little brow is instantaneous. Today, he said to me, "Mommy, I want to practice my reading book." So he got our our reading book and brought it to me. We sat down on the couch together, and he read and read and read. Four and Five letter words, whole sentences, with no frustration, no difficulty what-so-ever. I was shocked. It's amazing what this little boy can do when he puts his mind to it. I'm just so proud of him!

Tomorrow, Alex is going to be my helper. Daddy promised him that if he cooperated and was a good helper, that he could have a special ice cream sundae. I'm hoping this is an incentive to him because I'll need all the help I can get! He's very excited because he got to help prepare meals and snacks for tomorrow. He was so proud of himself! I can't wait to see how excited he is tomorrow when he gets to get out the snacks he made!

Speaking of snacks, for anyone who doesn't know, Alex is gluten free. The other day I came up with a fun meal/snack for Alex. He absolutely loves it! I call it "Alex's Happy Meal." Almond crackers with peanut butter, raisins, and rice puffs. Yum!! Here's a picture.

Starting again

Time goes so quickly. A friend's blog today inspired me to return to blogging myself, but in trying to return to our original blog, I found that I was unable to log in. Sadly, it was linked to an e-mail I no longer have access to.

What shocked me, though, was that it has been nearly a year and a half since I blogged. So much has changed in that time, and I wish that I'd recorded it. But from here I can only move forward, and so I intend to do.

I'm setting a goal for blogging at least weekly if not daily. I want to preserve and share each day with the boys for years to come.

So today we begin anew! A new blog, a new resolve, a new hobby, a new joy!
