I sprained my knee this past Saturday. Nothing exciting happened, just was cleaning up the family room, bent down to pick something up and something in my knee snapped. Not being able to do much is really frustrating to me right now, but Lucas is brightening my days constantly.
On the way home from the MedPointe, we had Celtic Women playing, and Lucas sang with me. Every time I looked back at him, he would start singing, too, and a huge almost shy grin would spread across his face. It brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart. Music means so much to me and that he loves it just thrills me to no end. I can't believe that with how little he speaks, he memorizes and sings songs.
Yesterday, he was sitting at the piano, tinkering away and singing "Mahna mahna do do do do do mahna mahna do do do do" It was so cute!
This afternoon, Lucas brought me the tub of mini-merengues that we got on our trip to NY. I opened the tub and he popped one in his mouth and a huge smile filled his face. He giggled as he bit into it and it melted in his mouth. He did this four or five times and then picked one up and shoved it in my mouth, giggling away. I couldn't help but laugh out loud with him. There is just something contagious about his smile and his laugh!
Alex is so cute, he is constantly concerned about if I'm okay. I assure him that I'll be fine, and the relief that crosses his furrowed little brow is instantaneous. Today, he said to me, "Mommy, I want to practice my reading book." So he got our our reading book and brought it to me. We sat down on the couch together, and he read and read and read. Four and Five letter words, whole sentences, with no frustration, no difficulty what-so-ever. I was shocked. It's amazing what this little boy can do when he puts his mind to it. I'm just so proud of him!
Tomorrow, Alex is going to be my helper. Daddy promised him that if he cooperated and was a good helper, that he could have a special ice cream sundae. I'm hoping this is an incentive to him because I'll need all the help I can get! He's very excited because he got to help prepare meals and snacks for tomorrow. He was so proud of himself! I can't wait to see how excited he is tomorrow when he gets to get out the snacks he made!

Speaking of snacks, for anyone who doesn't know, Alex is gluten free. The other day I came up with a fun meal/snack for Alex. He absolutely loves it! I call it "Alex's Happy Meal." Almond crackers with peanut butter, raisins, and rice puffs. Yum!! Here's a picture.
